Frequently Asked Questions

What medium and surface do you use?

I work exclusively in oils on archival board. I only use pigments with the best lightfastness and permanence ratings. Rigid surfaces such as Ampersand Gessobord, which I use for my paintings, have been found to hold up much better over time than flexible surfaces such as canvas. Their smoother texture is also better for viewing the high degree of detail in certain areas of my paintings.

Do you travel to my area?

I am based in New Jersey, but I will travel anywhere worldwide. So I am just as available for your luxury destination wedding in France or The Maldives as I am for any of our beautiful domestic locations.

How long does a painting take to complete?

Each live event painting may take over 400 hours from start to finish. Various factors can affect how much time is required to complete the paintings, such as how complicated and detailed the background or setting is.

When will I receive my finished painting?

Exactly when I am able to finish your painting after the event will depend on a few factors, such as how many other event paintings there are to be finished at that particular time. This can fluctuate, so it may be difficult to predict. It will likely be at least two months after your event, but it may be five months or more.

Can I choose what people will be in the painting and will you paint their faces?

Each painting includes two highly recognizable people. These faces will be detailed and have the distinct appearance of how each person actually looks. For a wedding painting, this will be the married couple. For the most part, the other people in the painting will have faces done in a slightly more impressionistic style. You will generally be able to choose a few of your closest friends and family to be included, depending on which option you choose. The number of people that you may select will depend on the layout of each picture.

Do you work on the painting before the day of the celebration?

In general, I will need to have a preliminary meeting with you at the venue around 6 weeks beforehand. At this time, we will go over the best place for me to set up in the room or location where the big day will be happening. We will also go over some other topics to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible when it's showtime. I will take some photos and use them to get a head start on the background in my studio. If you would prefer to just have your wedding planner meet with me so that you can focus on narrowing down your floral palette and linen selections, we can do that as well.

Do you paint from photos?

I work on my paintings before, during, and after the event. This is done with a combination of looking at the actual room while the festivities are happening, as well as relying more heavily on photos as my reference before and after the event.

Do you do more than wedding paintings?

Whether a corporate gala, quinceñera, luxury wedding, or mitzvah, the elements of lavish parties tend to be very similar when translating them to a work of art. Each of these types of celebrations are great occasions to be remembered as a moment frozen in time on your wall for years to come.
